This capsule hotel is best suited for budget-conscious travellers prioritizing location over comfort and quiet, particularly those who are heavy sleepers or plan to be out late exploring Shinjuku.
ELE Cabin Shinjuku Kabukicho offers a budget-friendly capsule experience in the vibrant heart of Tokyo's Shinjuku district. Guests sleep in enclosed pods, some equipped with windows, and are provided with towels, toiletries, and loungewear. While the location is a major draw, placing guests within easy reach of Shinjuku Station and local attractions, the property struggles with noise management, both from the lively Kabukicho area and fellow guests. Pod comfort is a common concern, with many finding the mattresses exceptionally thin. Shared bathrooms are located on different floors, sometimes in the basement, and luggage storage is limited to small lockers, requiring larger bags to be kept in communal areas. The property does offer separate floors for male and female guests, which is appreciated for privacy and safety.
♀ Reviews mention separate floors for men and women, with specific praise for the safety and quietness of the women's floor.

Noise is a significant issue, both from inconsiderate guests within the sleeping areas (talking, watching videos loudly) and from the surrounding Shinjuku Kabukicho area. The lack of staff intervention for noise complaints is also noted.
“Since capsule hotels rely heavily on mutual respect and quietness, it was disappointing to see people talking on the phone inside the sleeping area, watching videos with the sound on, and even arriving very late at night wearing high heels, which created a lot of noise around 4 AM.”
“The location in Shinjuku is very convenient, with many restaurants, shops, and nightlife nearby. However, this also means the area is extremely noisy throughout the night. If you are sensitive to noise or looking for a quiet place to rest, I would not recommend this hotel. The hotel may still suit travelers who are heavy sleepers and mainly looking for a central location, but I would not recommend it to light sleepers or anyone seeking a calm environment.”
“At night, there is no one at reception to speak with about problematic and inconsiderate guests. I had an extremely loud American girl in the room with me. At 11:45pm, she was watching cartoons without any earphones on, and laughing very loudly. At one point, she said out loud, "This is the funniest s_ _ _ I've ever seen." *She was so loud, I could hear her through my earplugs.* Although other people were hushing her, she did not turn down the volume and stop laughing until I said "omg SHUT UP" very loudly. I would have preferred to speak to a member of staff to deal with stuff like this.”
Many guests found the mattresses to be very thin and hard, leading to uncomfortable sleep. Some also noted issues with temperature control inside the pods, feeling too hot despite thin bedding.
“Only very thick blanket was provided, and even without it the capsule felt too hot at night”
“The bed! It's basically what back home we'd call a bed topper, a thin soft mattress. You'll feel like sleeping on the floor. Good thing I brought my packable sleeping mattress and that helped.”
“I know its a capsulae hotel and the goal is cheapness, but that was the hardest bed I have ever slept on. S”
Capsules are generally described as spacious, and some have roller blinds for visual privacy. However, some blinds do not fully block light, allowing street light to enter the sleeping space.
“The capsule was quite spacious and the place clean.”
“Light was very dim and the shades don't go down all the way leaking in light.”
“There is a window for each capsule (which is great) but the blinds do not fully cover the window so lights from the street come into your sleeping space.”
Cleanliness receives mixed reviews; while some guests found the property and capsules clean, others reported issues with shared spaces, particularly bathrooms, and even lockers not being clean.
“The shared spaces, especially the bathrooms, were unfortunately not very clean during my stay.”
“Place is clean and good for girls stay as on separate floor”
“I really liked the hostel; its location is excellent, it's very clean, and the street is nice.”
Shared bathrooms are a point of contention, with some guests finding them clean and well-stocked, while others reported them to be unclean. The location of showers in the basement or on different floors, accessible by a single elevator, was inconvenient for many.
“The shared spaces, especially the bathrooms, were unfortunately not very clean during my stay.”
“Showers and washrooms were on a different floor to the bedrooms and there is only one elevator to get between floors. This made it quite tedious getting ready in the morning and evening.”
“The shower area is slightly narrow compared to other capsule hotels.”
Luggage storage is a significant drawback, with lockers being too small for anything larger than a small backpack. This forces guests to leave larger suitcases in communal areas, causing clutter and inconvenience. Lockers are also not available on all floors.
“Nowhere to leave your suitcase. Lockers were too small for luggage (fine to keep a backpack of valuables in though) and there was no designated space for big bags so everyone kept them in the communal space which meant they were either in the way or took away the only space outside of the pod in the room to sit.”
“The lockers are very narrow. I had trouble fitting my 30-litre backpack into the locker (not an issue in 95% of other places). So people carrying wheeled suitcases had to leave their bags around the shower area / lounge area.”
“It was a little inconvenient to have the lockers only on one floor.”
Staff are generally described as polite, helpful, and friendly. However, there was a complaint about strict adherence to check-in times even when rooms were ready, and a lack of staff presence at night to address guest issues.
“Staff were polite.”
“Staff very helpful and super friendly”
“No early check in despite rooms being ready. On the day I checked in the receptionist made me wait until exactly 3pm to check in even though the rooms were ready.”
The location in Shinjuku Kabukicho is consistently praised as excellent, being walking distance from Shinjuku station, close to shops, restaurants, nightlife, and convenient for exploring Tokyo.
“Very good location: alking distance from Shinjuku station, 7eleven nearby.”
“Location really good.”
“In the heart of shinjuku and not far from the station, this capsule hotel is well located for exploring Tokyo.”
The atmosphere is often disrupted by inconsiderate guests making noise in sleeping areas, and the lack of separate communal spaces means activities like eating or dealing with luggage can disturb others. There is a general lack of common areas.
“Since capsule hotels rely heavily on mutual respect and quietness, it was disappointing to see people talking on the phone inside the sleeping area, watching videos with the sound on, and even arriving very late at night wearing high heels, which created a lot of noise around 4 AM.”
“The communal lounges should not be in the same space as the sleeping area. People eating, dealing with their luggage, etc. can all be heard very clearly, especially if they have plastic bags.”
“Very small to no common area.”
Guests generally consider ELE Cabin Shinjuku Kabukicho to offer good value for money, especially given its prime location in Shinjuku, despite some drawbacks in comfort and cleanliness.
“Good value fore money and good location. Easy access.”
“Good affordable lodging in Shinjuku”
“I understand that this type of accommodation is usually more basic and affordable, but I think better cleanliness and stricter quiet rules would greatly improve the experience.”
